Visual Teaching Strategies Oakland University
Offered on a rotating basis.



Overview

Consider that 65% of the population are visual learners and 90% of the information that comes to the brain is visual. The brain processes images 60,000 times faster than text. Emphasis will be on how a variety of visual aids in the classroom will improve learning up to 400%.

The focus of this course is to understand and apply the visual teaching template in all instructional areas to benefit all learners and to meet and visually impact the challenges of the performance indicators for Education Yes!



Content
-Adapting instruction to visually engage the diverse needs foun din mixed-ability classrooms
-Hands-on activities using Visual Mind Mapping, Visual Links and Visual Journals
-Incorporating imagery in lessons using the Six Methods of Visual Learning
-Increasing visual awareness through encoding/decoding skills
-Integration of brain-compatible strategies
-Performance indicators for Education Yes! standards, benchmarks and key characteristics at all levels/instructional areas
-Applying deBono's Six Thinking Hats in the classroom


Gloria Rzadko-Henry, Course Leader
   As Co-Director of the Visual Teaching Alliance, Gloria C. Rzadko-Henry has been dedicated to quality professional development, hands-on training and motivational strategies for educators and administrators since 1988. She has presented to more than 180,000 participants at schools, universities and national educational conferences.

Gloria has authored and co-authored several books and articles, including English Works in America - EL Civics & ESL: Visual Communication Tools for Teacher Photo Finishers; The Watergraphâ„¢ Process: Exploring the World of Art with Instant Photography; and most recently, A Moveable Museum.
