Tamara Hew is newest member of the CBR
Assistant Professor Tamara Hew, of the School of Health Sciences, is the newest member of the Center for Biomedical Research. Hew has had 17 peer-reviewed publications accepted for publication since coming to Oakland University in the fall of 2010, and has been awarded over $50,000 in external funding. Hew’s research focuses on disorders of water and sodium balance and exercise-related collapse. Her expertise is in the area of exercise-associated hyponatremia.

TAMARA HEW-BUTLER SHS - Assistant Professor, Exercise Science Program

Dr Tamara Hew-Butler is an assistant professor of Exercise Science at Oakland University in Rochester, MI. She obtained her: BS in Kinesiology at the University of California at Los Angeles, CA; Doctor of Podiatric Medicine (DPM) at Temple University in Philadelphia, PA; Residency and Fellowship at the Harris County Podiatric Surgical Residency Program, Houston, TX; and Philosophy Doctor (PhD) at the University of Cape Town, South Africa. Dr Hew-Butler is a Fellow of the American College of Sports Medicine (FACSM) and specializes in both sports medicine and exercise physiology. She currently conducts human studies pertaining to exercise endocrinology and has avid interest in disorders of fluid balance, all aspects of distance running, and would like to pursue clinical endocrine research in pediatric obesity, wound healing, and bone metabolism.
