SBA alumnus named vice president of human resources for Cox Communications

It’s been said that choosing a university can make or break a career. Reflecting on 20 successful years in the human resources profession, Pipier Bewlay (SBA ’86) is glad she made the right decision. She applied and was accepted to Cornell University, General Motors Institute, and her school of choice, Oakland University.

“OU is as good – or better – than the name-brand schools out there,” Bewlay told the SBA Insight in a 2009 article. “People take for granted that there is a great university in their own backyard.”

Her education and experience led to her recent position as Vice President and General Manager of Human Resources for Cox Communication. Here Bewlay will oversee the development and execution of Cox’s employee relations, development, and acquisition and retention strategy for the company’s 1,400 employees in Rhode Island, Connecticut and Ohio.

Bewlay joins Cox Communications with more than 25 years of experience in human resources, many of which were with a number of well-known companies such as Target, Home Depot, General Motors and Kraft Foods. Her responsibilities have included coaching, training and development; talent acquisition; human resources management; and corporate compliance. She most recently served as a consultant and founder of People Maintenance Coaching, LLC, where she provided career, leadership and life coaching skills to small business owners and entrepreneurs.

“Pipier’s diverse background in human resources will be a strong asset to Cox Communications as we continue to evolve in this fiercely competitive environment,” Cronin said. “Attracting, developing and retaining the best employee talent goes along with our company’s commitment to customer service excellence. As an employer of choice, Pipier will play a critical role in maximizing our business through the growth of our talented workforce,” he added.

Pipier earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Oakland University and an MBA from Almeda University.
