Groundbreaking for OU and the OSH program
We broke ground for the Human Health Building in April 2010. The OSH program was extremely well represented at the groundbreaking and likewise, in the design and occupancy of the upcoming building.

Fast Facts about the building:

  • It will be complete by 2012 
  • It incorporates students from the School of Health Sciences and the School of Nursing 
  • It will be 160,000 square feet and costs $62 million 
  • Cited by university President Russi " a part of OU's larger effort to address the looming shortages in the health care industry and widen Oakland's economic impact in the region," 
  • Cutting-edge technology to incorporate green design. For example, the university recently was awarded a $2.7 million federal grant to install a geothermal heating and cooling system in the facility, which will reduce energy-related carbon emissions and significantly reduce energy costs. 

Fantastics Facts about the OSH program:

  • OSH faculty worked with the architects on the design, using input from current OSH students. 
  • The OSH program benchmarked with 3 other ABET accredited safety programs to be sure the OSH program has state of the art labs and facilities. 
  • Donations have been made by national and local organization to ensure the right equipment is available for OSH students and safety and health professionals for continuous education. 
  • The OSH labs include a fire science/sprinkler wet lab, a fall protection lab, an industrial hygiene lab and robotics lab.
