Oakland University announces the opening of the Rick Smith Golf Academy
Oakland University is pleased to announce the launch of the Rick Smith Golf Academy (RSGA) at the OU Golf and Learning Center. As one of the premier golf facilities in Michigan, the center is committed to grow the game of golf by offering cutting-edge golf instruction through the highly respected Rick Smith Golf Academy.
A renowned golf instructor, Smith designed the R&S Sharf Golf Course and is excited to return to the facility with a world-class, signature golf academy offering.
“My team and I are very excited to have such a fantastic golf academy location, as Oakland University is a first-class facility. The management team and golf staff are top-notch, and we look forward to offering a truly world-class golf experience to golfers in the region, as well as visitors from all over the globe,” Smith said.
Pat Gorman will serve as the RSGA Academy director and will lead the business on a daily basis. His extensive experience includes such accolades as receiving Wisconsin “Teacher of the Year” in 2000, 2004 and 2008. He is the only teacher to ever receive the award three times.
Rick Smith Golf Academies offer customized programs for all golfers – from beginners to PGA Tour players. Smith and his elite staff of instructors achieve success by focusing on the fundamentals of the golf swing, keeping a minimal student/teacher ratio to allow for personalized instruction, and using clear communication and state-of-the-art swing analysis video technology.
“We’re truly thrilled to welcome Rick Smith back to Oakland University,” said Bill Rogers, managing director of golf at Oakland University.
“Adding a highly acclaimed golf academy like RSGA is consistent with what Oakland University Golf and Learning Center has to offer – that is, the best combination of golf, dining and special event facilities in the region, bar none. Now we can boast world-class instruction alongside 36 holes of championship golf.”
