Book bag collection drive a huge successIn December, Associate Professor of Education Timothy Larrabee sought help from Oakland University colleagues in collecting unused conference bags for Bags Across the Globe for Students (BAGS). The non-profit organization aims to provide underprivileged school kids with bags to carry their books.
Larrabee is pleased to report that response from faculty and staff made the collection drive a huge success. In a month's time, he collected more than 125 conference bags from people across campus.
Larrabee has mailed the impressive haul to a BAGS distribution facility in Florida, where they will be forwarded to distressed populations around the world. But that won't be the end of his collection drive. Based on the overwhelming response he received, Larrabee plans to continue collecting the bags.
"I figured if I just keep collecting ... it's an easy thing for me to do and a way that I can do something positive on an international level," he said.
