OU accounting students attend professional meeting
Students who attended (left to right) the breakfast were Lori Dorko, Bridget Gruich, Samantha Snell, Drew Green, Korry Bates, Sheila Brooks, Mr. Melancon, Jessica Coury, Ashley Denard, Del Kanka, and Karen Meyer.
Oakland University accounting students had the opportunity to meet and interact with one of the most influential leaders of the accounting profession during a breakfast at the Michigan Association of Certified Public Accountants’ Members Advisory Forum.
The students met with Barry Melancon, president and CEO of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, who was the keynote speaker at the semi-annual Members Advisory Forum. The AICPA is the national membership organization of CPAS, with 350,000 members. The forum was attended by nearly 200 leaders in the accounting profession from Michigan.
The MACPA extended an exclusive invitation to OU students to attend a private breakfast with Melancon. Gadis Dillon, professor of accounting and member of the MACPA President’s Advisory Council, facilitated the invitation.
Ten OU students attended the breakfast and the Members’ Advisory Forum. The forum topics included national issues affecting the accounting profession, issues affecting CPAs in Michigan and other updates.
