More than 1,400 Grizzlies gather at the ballpark
More than 1,400 Oakland University alumni, faculty, staff, students and friends participated in the OU Alumni Association’s Third Annual OU Night at Comerica Park on Wednesday, Aug. 22. The Golden Grizzlies fans received food, orange glow necklaces, and OU T-shirts before cheering on the Detroit Tigers as they hosted the Cleveland Indians.
“This event has grown into a great community-builder for our alumni, faculty, staff and students.,” said Erin Sudrovech, assistant director of Alumni Relations. “We love to see all that Oakland University pride extending into downtown Detroit.”
A reception was held at the Fox Theatre across Woodward Avenue from Comerica Park prior to the game. More than 1,000 OU fans participated in the event.
New alumnus Ryan Heath (SEHS ’07), a former pitcher and infielder for OU’s baseball team, had the honor of tossing out the first pitch.
The event has grown in popularity with 200 people attending in 2005 and more than 1,000 last year. This year, the OUAA sold all 1,425 tickets it had available.
