Report, application submitted for grant continuation
We sent in our annual report and application for the continuation of our grant. We also joined the Urban Sites Network, enabling us to apply for a mini-grant from that group. If we get the mini-grant, we will offer a focused institute for Detroit Middle School teachers in August.

The idea would be to bring together a select group of middle school teachers for an intensive two-week, two-credit institute to take a close look at middle school writing and what can be done to improve it. This program will give us an opportunity to showcase the work of the middle school teachers we had in last summer’s institute and to reach some Detroit teachers who might not be able to attend the full invitational institute. It will be conducted at a school in Detroit.

We are still looking at the possibility of offering a young people’s summer writing camp. We learned at the annual meeting that these are very popular writing project activities across the nation.
