Children interested in dance can learn from members of three professional dance companies in the Great Lakes Dance Festival camp. The Department of Music, Theatre and Dance also will hold a number of theatre workshops throughout the summer.

Gifted high school math students have the opportunity to enhance their skills and earn college credit for free in the Summer Mathematics Institute, sponsored by the Department of Mathematics and Statistics.

Lowry Center for Early Childhood Education in the Schools of Education and Human Services offers these three camps for children ages 2-6:

• Multicultural Camp: Focus on India and Michigan
• Back to Nature
• Exploring the Creative Process

The Lowry camps engage children in hands-on experiences drawn from the outdoors as well as the indoor environment.

OU's Department of Reading and Language Arts is sponsoring a writing workshop designed to develop skills in planning, composing, revising and editing all types of writing. The department also is offering a reading clinic where students learn reading techniques from instructors who provide an appropriate course of instruction in reading, writing and oral language development.

Boys and girls can improve their skills in basketball, soccer and swimming through camps offered by the Athletics Department. Other sports camps with activities planned on campus include the NDA Dance Camp.

Some of the camps are overnight camps, where participants stay and eat meals in OU’s residence halls. Other camps are full or half days.

Oakland University’s School of Nursing will offer Camp RN@OU, a pre-college summer program for seventh and eighth grades to learn more about careers in nursing. Students learn clinical calculations, forensic nursing, nursing fundamentals, computer applications and they explore careers. Students will be CPR and First Aid certified.
