Fatma Mili has been leading efforts in nurturing and diversifying scholars in the areas of computing and information technology. She recently was awarded two federal grants totaling $857,000. The grant from the National Science Foundation, her second, is for mentoring undergraduate students in research in computing with a special focus on female students.
The second grant, from the National Science Foundation and National Institute of Health, is for mentoring students from engineering, sciences and health in their research of bioinformatics with a focus on minority students. This multidisciplinary effort involves faculty from four different schools at Oakland and exemplifies teamwork and the spirit of cooperation.
