Mark Severson
Professor and Chair of Chemistry
Dedicated service to the Department of Chemistry and Oakland University is inherent to Mark Severson, who has served in a variety of key roles in his 23 years at Oakland. As chair of the Department of Chemistry, he is highly regarded throughout the department for his leadership skills and even-handed approach to problem solving.
Severson also serves as the chair of the Dean Advisory Committee, coordinating the search for a leader for the College of Arts and Sciences. He is chair of the College of Arts and Sciences planning committee for the 2005-06 academic year theme, Environmental Explorations, responsible for the conception of various related events and activities.
In service to his discipline, Severson has twice served as organizer of the Telluride Summer Research Workshops in 2000 and 2004, prestigious gatherings that bring together the top 20 to 30 researchers in this subject area.
