James Hansen
Associate Professor of Counseling
James Hansen has single-authored more than 20 refereed articles in the top-tier journals of the counseling profession. Notably, the Journal of Counseling and Development, the flagship journal of the American Counseling Association, have accepted eight of these for publication.
Hansen’s primary scholarly focus is theoretical and philosophical issues in counseling. Specifically, he is interested in epistemology, neopragmatism and theoretical integration of counseling orientations.
He also has contributed multiple articles to counseling literature in the areas of professional identity development and critical analyses of contemporary mental health culture. His work is widely cited by counseling theorists and researchers.
