Grizzlies Excellence in Academics Awards named
A total of 128 student-athletes representing all 14 varsity teams attained the Golden Grizzlies Excellence in Academics Awards for the winter 2005 semester.
Each semester during the academic year the Athletics Department recognizes those student-athletes who have excelled academically. Student-athletes who meet the criteria of a minimum 3.0 GPA with a minimum 12 credit hours taken are named to the list.
Top academic honors among female student-athletes went to Laura Cowham (elementary education/soccer) and Katie O’Donnell (undecided/golf), both of whom attained perfect 4.0 GPAs. For the men, top honors went to Chris Fecek (biology/cross country) and David Elliott (general studies/cross country), both of whom tallied 3.90 GPAs.
In addition, Sarah Brettrager (undecided/swimming and diving), Christine Hager (biology/swimming and diving), Jessica Howard (communication/soccer), Line Jensen (general studies/swimming and diving), Taline Kalandjian (business/cross country), Lauren Parker (undecided/swimming and diving), Lisa Pellafone (elementary education/tennis), Lauren Sanchez-Murphy (Spanish language and literature/tennis), Danielle Shamus (undecided/softball) and Natalie Webb (accounting/softball) all attained GPAs over 3.9.
Among Oakland’s teams, the Golden Grizzly women’s golf squad posted the top combined GPA of 3.37. They were followed by women’s soccer with 3.32, women’s swimming and diving with 3.32 and men’s golf with 3.31. Of OU’s 14 teams, nine achieved a 3.0 or better, including seven of the eight women’s teams.
