Celebrate cultures at International Night
By Rebecca Wyatt, OU Web Writer
Oakland University will celebrate its diverse student culture with food, displays, fashion and entertainment during International Night 2005 on Friday, April 8, from 7 to 10 p.m. in the Oakland Center Banquet Rooms. Admission is free.
OU’s multicultural organizations will lead the campus community in a celebration of cultural diversity through food, music, dance, costumes and other expressions of their heritage. Each group will have a display area to inform visitors of facts about their culture.
“This annual event is important to the campus community, not just the international organizations,” said Petra Knoche, assistant director of the Office of International Students and Scholars. “It brings everybody together to become more aware of the other cultures.”
Event organizers chose this year's theme, "We are the World," because of the multitude of cultures represented. The participating student organizations include:
· Arab American Student Group
· Bangladeshi Student Organization
· Chaldean American Student Association
· China Club
· Chinese Friendship Association
· Fuerza
· German Club
· Indian Students Association
· International Student Friendship
· Intrigue Hip Hop
· Japan Club
· Pakistani Students Association
· Polish Club
· South Asia/India Club
· Turkish American Cultural Association
