New VP for Finance and Administration named
John Beaghan has been named the new vice president for Finance and Administration and treasurer to the Board of Trustees, pending board approval. He also will serve as chief financial officer to the Oakland University Foundation.
Beaghan comes to Oakland from Eastern Michigan University, where he worked for 13 years in a variety of budget and finance capacities. Most recently, he served as interim vice president for business and finance at Eastern for 16 months before being named permanently to that position. Prior to that, he worked for eight years at the University of Michigan in several accounting positions.
“John Beaghan brings to Oakland a wealth of experience and a strong track record of creative strategic planning,” OU President Gary Russi said. “In this time of shrinking state support, John’s role is a critical one. His financial management and negotiation skills will bring a key element to this position.”
In his new position, Beaghan will oversee the university’s day-to-day financial operations, human resources, facilities, police, purchasing and risk management, business services, and the Golf and Learning Center.
The position has been vacant since last August. Beaghan will begin his new job April 12.
