Board of Trustees welcomes new member
By Rebecca Wyatt, OU Web Writer
Gov. Jennifer Granholm recently appointed Jacqueline Long to the Oakland University Board of Trustees to replace outgoing trustee Dennis Muchmore, and Henry Baskin was reappointed to the board. Both Long and Baskin’s terms end Aug. 11, 2012.
Long is new to the Board of Trustees, but not the Oakland University community. She is a 1981 graduate of OU’s School of Nursing and a former School of Nursing representative on the Alumni Board.
“It is a terrific honor to be a part of the Oakland University Board of Trustees,” Long said. “I was pleased to be appointed by the governor and approved by the Senate. It is really an exciting and challenging time for the state and the university.”
Long said her familiarity with Oakland University and Oakland County will be an asset to the diverse voices that make up the Board of Trustees.
A registered nurse with experience as director of program development at North Oakland Medical Centers, Long has served as a nursing supervisor, coordinator of hospital staff education and a staff nurse. She has experience in program administration and grant development including awards exceeding $2 million from local, state, federal and private funding sources. And, she has developed and implemented community coalitions combining resources from the public, private and nonprofit sectors.
Baskin, now in his second term on the board, served as board chair from September 2002 to August 2004. He is an attorney and principal of Henry Baskin, P.C., in Birmingham. He serves as chair of the Michigan Judicial Tenure Commission, chair of the State Bar Judiciary Committee and co-chair of the State Bar Judicial Qualifications Committee. Baskin also is the founder and member of the Michigan Chapter of the Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers, chaired former Gov. John Engler’s Domestic Violence Task Force, and received the Lifetime Achievement Award of the Family Law section.
