Meadow Brook gardens featured on national show
By Rebecca Wyatt, OU Web Writer
The gardens of Meadow Brook Hall will be featured in a segment of the nationally syndicated show “Rebecca’s Garden,” which will air locally this weekend.
The show’s host, Rebecca Kolls, visited Meadow Brook Hall to tape the segment that features the many gardens surrounding the house.
The segment will be part of the show that airs at 6:30 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 4, on WXYZ-ABC, Channel 7, in the Detroit area.
The gardens are maintained by the Meadow Brook Hall Garden Club, a group of 104 volunteers. The group is lead by Roberta Bresette, garden club president, who has been working in the gardens for 10 years.
The group meets weekly to design, water, plant, mulch, fertilize and take care of the hall’s 16 gardens and 42 urns. The volunteers logged 2,700 hours last year and plans for the future are already in the works. The club would like to replant some of the beds, including designing and planting Tilly’s trial garden with annuals, and repairing the walkway at Knole Cottage.
In addition to maintaining the gardens around the hall, the club raises its own funds and sponsors monthly garden programs, which are open to anyone.
