OU hosts traveling exhibit from Germany
Oakland University is housing “Hello, Dear Enemy! Books on Tolerance and Peace” during the fall semester. This traveling exhibit features 55 titles (100 books), picture posters from 19 countries, and is on loan from the International Youth Library in Munich, Germany, and is touring throughout Europe, Asia and North America. It already has been viewed in numerous American cities as well as India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh.
The exhibits’ primary goal is to promote world peace and understanding between nations and cultures. Another objective is to generate creative activities and projects for children that may encourage and help maintain peace.
Issues include apartheid and the coming of democracy to South Africa, human rights, racism, atomic weapons, disarmament, and domestic violence. The collection’s overall messages of tolerance, solidarity and justice are understandable to everyone from elementary school to college level.
The exhibition is on display now through December in the Art Gallery on the third floor of Pawley Hall on the university’s campus. For more information, call (248) 370-4683.
