OU to offer first doctoral program in Macomb County

Oakland University's School of Education and Human Services is offering its Ph.D. in education with a concentration in educational leadership at the Macomb Intermediate School District building in Clinton Township, making it the only Ph.D. program currently offered by any university on-site in Macomb County.

The Ph.D. major in educational leadership is designed to develop individuals who can provide leadership to educational practice in the 21st Century, whether through roles in public and private school and district leadership or by contributing to research and teaching about educational policy and practice. Core concepts of the program include systems thinking, the leadership capacity and roles of all staff, the application of theory to practice, databased management, and grounded theory.

Classes will begin in fall 2004. The degree requires 76 credits beyond the master's degree with courses taken in a cohort model. Program details are available on the Department of Professional Development and Education Outreach Web site.

For program or application information, contact Oakland University at the Macomb ISD at (586) 226-8462 or e-mail kellett@oakland.edu. The deadline to register is March 1.
