Student among three in state to earn award

Oakland University junior Andrea Zarczynski of Shelby Township recently received an Outstanding Communication Student Scholarship from the Detroit Chapter of Women in Communications. Zarczynski is one of three Michigan students to receive this honor.

Zarczynski, a journalism major and French and English minor, has internships at “Metro Parent Magazine” and Bianchi Public Relations. She also is a freelance writer for “The Oakland Press,” “Detroit Free Press” and a staff writer for “The Oakland Post.”

“I’m very honored to have won this award,” said Zarczynski, who will pursue a career as a magazine writer or editor after she finishes her degree in May 2004. “The award is an inspiration to go on to fulfill my dreams.”

Zarczynski is a member of the Association for Women in Communications, the French Club at OU and Golden Key International Honour Society. She also is the editor of Golden Key’s newsletter and the founder and president of the Polish Club at OU. In addition, she has received Oakland University’s Commuter Involvement Scholarship Award.
