OU's Eye Research Institute awarded grant
Oakland University’s Eye Research Institute (ERI) received a five-year award of a Vision Research Infrastructure Development Grant from the National Eye Institute (NEI).
Oakland University and the ERI will receive a total of $1,054,905 over five years. This award will support two laboratory research modules, Ocular Ultrastructure and Cell and Molecular Biology, and will permit the institute to purchase a real-time Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) machine and establish a Microarray Analysis Facility.
"The award will allow vision researchers at Oakland University to perform at a new level of excellence regarding their research on the eye and blinding eye diseases," said Frank Giblin, principle investigator on the grant and interim director of the ERI.
Nine vision researchers will participate with the grant, including Giblin, Sitaramayya Ari, Barry Winkler, Shravan Chintala, Kenneth Mitton and Andy Goldberg from the ERI and John Reddan, Anne Hitt and Sheldon Gordon from the Department of Biological Sciences.
