Interpretation workshop targets OU language students

Oakland University offers language programs in Arabic, Chinese, French, German, Hebrew, Italian, Japanese, and Spanish.

Advanced students in the Department of Modern Languages and Literatures programs can improve their skills, hone key interpretation techniques, and learn career tips at a three-day interpretation workshop.

Taught by Amparo Jiménez, professor of translation at Jaume I University in Spain, the workshop is designed to familiarize students with important methods used in consecutive and simultaneous interpretation.

Prof. Jiménez has published several books on translation and interpretation theory and applied techniques, including “Primeros pasos hacia la interpretación: Manual de interpretación ingles-español,” “Interpreting naturally: A tribute to Brian Harris,” “Interpreting Brian Harris: Recent advances in translatology,” and “Logische Kohäsio: EnQualitätsparameter beim Simultandolmetschen en Gunter Narr Verlag.”

The free workshop is set for 3-5 p.m. on June 3-5, in 409 Wilson Hall, and is open to modern language students who have completed 400 level courses.

Students interested in participating should send an unofficial copy of their transcripts to Adolfo Campoy, assistant professor of Spanish, at campoycu@oakland.edu.
