How do I benefit from direct deposit?

No lost or stolen checks or delays with the mail to deal with. No need to go to the bank to deposit your funds and wait for the check to clear!

What payments from OU can I received by direct deposit?

Direct Deposit – Non-Payroll allows direct deposit of refunds of financial aid, payments for dropped classes that were made by cash or check, and reimbursements for student organization-related expenses.

Direct Deposit – Payroll allows direct deposit of student employment paychecks including work-study.

How do I sign up?

Students can enroll in direct deposit online through the portal at mysail.oakland.edu. After logging in, click SAIL: Non-Payroll: go to Student Services and Financial Aid, Direct Deposit – Non-Payroll:
  • refunds of financial aid
  • payments for dropped classes that were made by cash or check
  • reimbursements for student organization-related expenses

If I sign up for direct deposit, when will it start?

Direct Deposit is effective immediately.

When do I get my financial aid refund check?
Processing of credit balance refunds resulting from excess financial aid generally begins 10 days before the first day of the semester. Students who elect to receive their refund by direct deposit will generally receive their refund in 4-6 days from the date it is posted to their account. Students who elect to receive their refund by check will generally receive their refund in 7-10 days (due to mailing time). Refund checks are mailed to the current address on file.

When do I get my refund for dropping a class?

How will I know when my direct deposit is posted to my bank account?

For Direct Deposit – Non-Payroll you will be notified by e-mail. In order to receive notifications you must activate your Oakland University e-mail account. Direct Deposit – Non-Payroll notification will include amount, bank name, and date of deposit.

For Direct Deposit – Payroll you can verify your deposit by calling your bank or by checking your balance through an ATM cash station or on-line service.

Generally the lead time is 3-5 days for your funds to appear in your bank account.

How do I obtain a copy of my pay stub?

You will be able to retrieve a copy of your pay stub through the portal at mysail.oakland.edu. After logging in, click SAIL, then go to Employee Services, Pay Information, Pay Stub.

Can my payment be deposited in the account of my choice?

Yes! You may choose any account for your direct deposit payment.

Checking: If you choose to have your funds deposited into a checking account, you must know the routing and account number when you enroll and select “Checking.”

Savings: If you choose to have your funds deposited in a savings account, you must know the routing and account number when you enroll and select “Savings.”

Can I have the funds direct deposited to my SpiritCard PLUS? What about my SpiritCa$h account?

Yes! You can elect to have the funds deposited to the SpiritCard PLUS Credit Union ONE account on your SpiritCard. Simply obtain your routing number and account number verification form from Credit Union ONE to use when you enroll in direct deposit. Make sure you select “Checking” at the time of enrollment.

Unfortunately, we are unable to direct deposit funds to your SpiritCa$h account.

Can I have Parent PLUS excess funds direct deposited?

Direct deposit in not an option for Parent PLUS refunds at the present time.

Can I split the direct deposit into more than one bank account?

Direct Deposit – Non-Payroll can only be deposited to one bank account.

Direct Deposit – Payroll can be split between 3 banks.

What happens if I change banks or bank accounts?

You must change your direct deposit information through the portal at mysail.oakland.edu. After logging in, click SAIL, then update both the Direct Deposit – Non-Payroll and Direct Deposit – Payroll forms. You will need to update each form separately.

If I already have my Grad Assistant or student payroll check direct deposited, will I need to enroll in Direct Deposit – Non Payroll?

Yes. Your student account Direct Deposit – Non Payroll enrollment is not related to the Direct Deposit – Payroll enrollment.

If I already have my student refund / reimbursement direct deposited, will I need to enroll in Direct Deposit – Payroll?

Yes. Your student account Direct Deposit – Payroll enrollment is not related to the Direct Deposit – Non Payroll enrollment.

What if I close my bank account or want to cancel my direct deposit?

You must cancel your direct deposit online through the portal at mysail.oakland.edu.After logging in, click SAIL, then cancel both the Direct Deposit – Non-Payroll and/or Direct Deposit – Payroll forms. You will need to cancel each form separately.

What happens if my direct deposit is not accepted by my bank?

Oakland University presently participates with over 9,500 banks across the United States. If a direct deposit is not accepted by your bank, Oakland University will be notified and the reason for rejection will be reviewed. If the reason for rejection cannot be resolved, you will be issued a check.
