Academic Services

Academic success is important in the pursuit of your degree. There are multiple resources and services available to help in your journey. Students who utilize these services are often more successful in the classroom.

Academic Peer Mentors

Academic Peer Mentors (APMs) live in the residence halls and apartments and offer free tutoring in Hamlin and Oak View Halls. Tutor nights are held Monday-Thursday from 8 to 11 p.m. in both locations. APMs also host workshops and online chats on topics like time management, motivation and goal-setting.

The Student Success staff is located in Hamlin Hall and provides a wide range of free services and support to all on-campus residents. Common areas of support include study skills, transitional concerns and academic probation.

Kresge Library

Kresge Library serves as a great complimentary academic resource for all OU students. Open 24 hours a day, the library offers a substantial number of services to students, including ask-a-librarian, which can be used any time day or night. Also, the library has a number of computing and study spaces for students to utilize 24 hours a day 7 days a week.

Student Technology Center

The Student Technology Center (STC) is the headquarters for the promotion, instruction and support of technology literacy. The STC's training, education and hands-on learning experiences offers on-campus services to meet OU students' ever-increasing technology needs. The STC provides workshops on graphic design, web design, video editing and more. Additionally the STC has a loan program where students can rent video cameras, tablets, laptops, microphones and cameras.

The Tutoring Center

The Tutoring Center offers a wide array of free tutoring services, including peer tutoring, Supplemental Instruction, and a webpage with instructional mathematics and statistics videos and other study aids.

Writing Center

The Oakland University Writing Center is open to OU students, faculty and staff in all disciplines at any stage of the writing process. The center provides writers with an interested and supportive audience of well-trained consultants who help both novice and expert writers explore ideas, revise drafts and develop the skills to craft polished works.
