Deans Choice Grant


The goal of the Giving Back to the Community challenge is to encourage students to work with local charities and give back to surrounding Oakland University communities. The Division of Student Affairs encourages all student organization and club sports to apply and win big for their organization!

Contest is sponsored by the Oakland University Credit Union.

Enter the competition February 2 - March 2, 2018.

How to Enter
Enter the competition in four easy steps:
  1. Select a charity in Wayne, Oakland or Macomb county.
  2. Interview a staff member at the charity about their organization, purpose and operations.*
  3. Write a 500-700 word essay that includes a description of your charity of choice, a summary of the interview with a staff member from Step 2, and what your organization will do with the prize money in you win.
  4. Involve your membership in collecting monetary donations for your charity of choice.


  • Your essay should also include the name and contact information of the staff member from selected charity you interviewed.
  • Monetary donations are collected through the Center for Student Activities in the Oakland Center.
  • All steps must be completed to be considered eligible for the competition.

The student organizations with the most donations collected for their charity of choice, along with the top written essays, will be selected to win one of the prizes listed below:

  • First place: $1250
  • Second place: $750
  • Third place: $500

The winners will be announced at Student Leader Awards Banquet in April 2018.
