Oakland University will present Stiles and Drewe’s “The Three Little Pigs” on May 18, May 20 and June 8 in Varner Recital Hall.

Oakland University’s Department of Theatre will present Stiles and Drewe’s “The Three Little Pigs on Friday, May 18; Sunday, May 20; and Friday, June 8 in Varner Recital Hall on the OU campus.

Musician George Styles and lyricist Anthony Drewe, the award-winning writers of the international smash hits Mary Poppins and HONK!, have put their own musical twist on the classic fairy tale. In this novel retelling, the three little pigs become world-renowned celebrities out of reach of a misunderstood wolf who just wants to have them for dinner.

“The story of the three little pigs is a classic one,” said OU student Kelsi Fay, who plays Mother Pig in the show. “I grew up on it, my parents grew up on it and this young generation is growing up on it. But this show in particular brings it to life in a way I have never seen before.”

Appealing to audiences aged three years and up, and celebrating togetherness, The Three Little Pigs is an endearing musical filled with catchy songs and jokes for little ones and parents alike.

"This show is packed with music that you'll be singing for the rest of the day, choreography that makes you want to get up and dance, and a script that keeps everyone laughing — kids and adults alike,” said Mannon McIntosh, stage manager and tour manager for the show. “We are so lucky to have a cast that is so connected, as friends and as actors, because they're always supporting each other onstage, and that helps the audience trust their story and makes everything even more entertaining."

Admission is $6 for students and $10 for the general public. Children age 2 and under are free. Tickets may be purchased online without service fees at startickets.com or by phone at (800) 585-3737. They can also be purchased at the Varner Box Office on OU’s campus.

“This production has been so much fun to work on,” said Lynnae Lehfeldt, director and associate professor of theatre at Oakland University. “We have a really strong cast of performers that have made each role memorable. Our production features an entire Oakland student designer team. Their work on the production is fresh, inventive, and creative. And the cherry on top is the terrific choreography of Rachel Costantino. People of all ages are going to really enjoying seeing this show.”

According to Lehfeldt, children and parents are encouraged to “get comfy” and wear their pajamas to the 7 p.m. performances on May 18 and June 8.

The June 8 performance will also be shadow-signed for the Deaf by Synergy on Stage.

Unlike other methods of accommodating Deaf viewers, including the use of an off-stage interpreter or captions on a screen above the stage, “shadow signing” allows ASL performers to follow or “shadow” the actors on stage while interpreting, which means the audience can easily pay attention to both the sign language and the actors in the theatre.

To learn more about shadow signing, visit the Synergy on Stage website at www.synergyonstage.com.
