Appointed to OU’s Board of Trustees in March 2010, Jay Shah, P.E., is the vice president and principal at Somat Engineering Inc. in Detroit. Previously, he was chairman and CEO of a Rochester Hills consulting firm where he helped grow its stock value fivefold. Mr. Shah is the past president and National Director of the American Consulting Engineering Council/Michigan. He served on the Michigan Strategic Fund Board and Michigan Hospital Finance Authority. He serves on the Oakland County Economic Development Corporation and Business Roundtable and is a member of the Cobo Convention Citizen Advisory Council. He is a founding director of Lotus Bank and serves on its Audit Committee. He is chairman of the Board of Trustees of Jain Society of Greater Detroit. He received an M.B.A. from the University of Detroit and served on its advisory committee.
Mr. Shah is the recipient of the Wayne State University Distinguished Engineering Alumni Achievement Award and is an inductee into the WSU College of Engineering Hall of Fame. He also is a Fellow in both the American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC) and the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE). He is the recipient of community service awards from the National Federation of American Indian Associations and ACEC and Leadership Award from National Multiple Sclerosis Society.
