What do we do?

The Computer Facilities Administration, System Administration and Student Technicians are the Information Technology support team within the School of Business Administration. The team works closely with University Technology Service (UTS) on campus wide desktop standardization, licensing agreements, upgrades and implementation of network, hardware, software, and computer lab support.

SBA-CFA is responsible for, but not limited to, the following services within SBA:
  • Purchase and/or make recommendations regarding network, hardware, software, printer, scanners, etc.
  • Installation and maintenance of SBA servers, computer labs, desktop PCs, laptops, printers and related equipment
  • Purchase and replace printer toner cartridges for all SBA owned printers
  • Maintenance of the SBA website and related sources

Who do we support?

SBA faculty (full time and part-time) offices, support staff (office assistants, secretaries, and student assistants), SBA academic and non-academic programs, and SBA/OU students.

Service Hours:

  • Administrators
    • 8 AM - 5 PM, Monday - Friday
  • Student Lab Monitors (Fall and Winter)

    • 8 AM - 5 PM, Friday
    • 8 AM - 5 PM, Saturday
    • 1 PM - 6 PM, Sunday

What other services are available to me?

Some services are provided by central IT rather than departmentally. Examples of services provided by central IT include: Web Mail Powered by Google, Mailing Lists, Group Accounts, Banner Accounts, and VPN Access Accounts. SBA-IT will assist users with information, provide answers and/or contact the appropriate units to facilitate the process. Please see the UTS website for more information: http://www.oakland.edu/uts/

All students, faculty, and staff are provided with an Oakland University Computing Account (OUCA) and netID, which allows access to e-mail and calendar services at http://webmail.oakland.edu, web space, and many other online university resources.

All staff and faculty log into University computers using an ADMNET account. This type of account is required for classroom computer usage. To request an ADMNET account, click here.

How do I print from my office?

Faculty can print to several different shared printers. To install the printer, click Start -> Run and type the appropriate path:

  • 2nd Floor in Part-Time Faculty office (key to the office is required)
    Path: \\sba_server\bonsai
  • 3rd Floor in Faculty workroom
    Path: \\sba_sever\evergreen
  • 4th Floor in 435 EH
    Path: \\sba_server\willow

Click OK to continue. When prompted to install the printer, click Yes.

What shared folders are available?

To map a network drive in Windows 7, click on Start, go to Computer,  and select Map Network Drive. Pick a drive letter and type in the appropriate path. Make sure the "Reconnect" box is checked if you want this drive to always be available.

Some common shared folders are listed below.

J: (Email CFA for path)
The dean's office generally posts information for faculty/staff to view here. Only the dean's office can modify folder contents.

Z: \\sba_server\public
This folder is available to all SBA faculty/staff/students. Sometimes faculty put things here so there students can view from in the labs on campus. If you wish to store something here, make sure you put it in a folder with your last name, otherwise it will be removed. Make sure not to put anything confidential here!

These folders are unavailable from off-campus.

Can faculty members have SBA web space?

Each faculty member can request a website on the SBA web server, to allow access using FrontPage for ASP or ASP.NET.

Faculty members must follow OU guidelines for the content of their web pages:

  • SBA's web page is for academic use only.
  • Faculty is fully responsible for the content of his/her home page.
  • Any comment for feedback must be sent directly to the faculty member.
  • SBA-CFA oversees all web activities posted on the SBA site and reserves the right to make changes if necessary.

Can my students get SBA web space also?

Yes, the faculty member should let us know that they are interested in this and we can discuss options. Student web space will be available only during the semester in which they are enrolled in the specified course and will be removed afterwards. Submit your request for web space by sending an e-mail to us at sbahelp@oakland.edu

SBA Computer Labs

  • Open Lab - 215 EH. Contains 47 PCs.
  • Teaching Lab - 223 EH. Contains 36 PCs in addition to one instructor PC.
  • Teaching Lab - 202 EH. Contains 45 PCs in addition to one instructor PC.
  • Teaching Lab - 200C EH. Contains 28 PCs in addition to one instructor PC.

The open lab is available to all OU students, staff, faculty, alumni and/or guests for the use of computing.

Teaching labs may be reserved for classes, workshops, training, summer computer camps, and other activities based upon availability. As these facilities are much in demand, access is not guaranteed. Academic courses may also be scheduled in the teaching labs.

If you have a reservation, access will be made available approximately 30 minutes prior to the class time. You are responsible for making sure your students leave before you do and that the door is closed and locked behind you.

All labs are imaged with academic software at the beginning of the Fall term. Any requests for new software should be in our hands by August 15th, or two weeks before the beginning of the term, whichever comes first.

The Teaching Lab in 223 is made available to students when there are no classes scheduled and the Open Lab is full.

All labs use PrintWise network print software to manage lab printing.

Please contact us for more information regarding availability and lab software at sbahelp@oakland.edu or by calling (248) 370-4411.

How do I get my email set up?

After you've obtained your Grizzly ID (the one you'll use to log into SAIL to enter grades), go to http://webmail.oakland.edu and click on the link for "Forgot your Password" and then choose the link to "Obtain your Account" You'll have to enter your Grizzly ID and PIN and then will have to choose a new email password.

Where can I get a laptop for classes?

Faculty who requires a laptop for a presentation and/or a class should contact his/her department secretary to reserve a unit. Each department is given a set number to be shared among the faculty, so one may not be available.

CFA does not have laptops available or take reservations.

Where can I obtain a computer projector?

Most general purpose classrooms have a ceiling-mounted projector connected to the teaching station at the front of the room. Faculty who wish to use a laptop with the projector who need assistance with setup may contact Classroom Support and Instructional Technical Services (CSITS) at (248) 370-2461 or visit their office in Room 116, Varner Hall. For more information, visit http://www.oakland.edu/csits/.

Elliott Hall Classroom PCs:

Elliott Hall classroom machines are maintained by CSITS -- not us. Remember, they have the entire campus to look after, so please make any requests at least two weeks in advance and please be understanding with them. They re-image the computers often to ensure they are always in good working condition -- so you shouldn't assume that if it was there last semester that it will still be there. Also, it is always a good idea to check out your classroom in advance if you need something to be working on the first day.

Each classroom in EH is equipped with the following:

  • Instructor PC with speakers
  • VHS / DVD Player
  • Document Camera (for transparency and written materials)
  • Ceiling-mounted projector and screen (manual and automatic operated)
  • Phone and Ethernet outlets

For more information or to view specs for a specific classroom (Elliott Hall or elsewhere on campus), please visit: http://www.oakland.edu/csits/.

Please direct questions to Classroom Support and Instructional Technical Services (CSITS) in 207 Varner Hall or at (248) 370-2461.

Where can I learn more of IT resources on campus?

The UTS Help Desk is located in 220 DHE. Visit their web site at http://www.oakland.edu/uts/ for more information about IT resources on campus.
