Pre-Nursing Community

The School of Nursing and University Housing invite students to take advantage of the Pre-Nursing living-learning community. This community was designed for first-year students who have declared nursing as their intended major. This community is designed to ease the transition into college and enhance each student’s chance for success.

By combining the benefits of living on campus and pre-nursing requirements, students will be given a greater opportunity for success. Admittance to the School of Nursing can be very challenging. While participation in the Pre-nursing community does not guarantee admittance, it provides a great opportunity to study, learn, grow and interact with students who have the same academic focus and dedication. It also allows for close interaction with many of the services, programs and students in the School of Nursing.

The chance to live in this community is based on admittance, and participation in the community allows students the opportunity to work closely with academic advisers, receive mentoring from students in the nursing program and develop connections and experience opportunities within the School of Nursing. All students in this program will live on the same floor with other pre-nursing students who share common academic goals.

“The Living and Learning Community is one way to ensure student success by connecting them early to a support network.”

Shannon J. Barry, Freshman, Pre-Nursing

“I think the best part about living on the Pre-Nursing floor is the benefits it offers. You meet many people who are in the same courses as you, and you are able to organize a study group for that subject. It‘s like a big happy family on the floor. Every Tuesday at 5pm, we meet to go to dinner together and just chat like a big family.”

"I feel that with the new development of the pre-nursing floor so many students have had the opportunity to create friendships with others on the floor. These friendships will last throughout the nursing program. Students are able to create study buddies, homework partners, and live with others that have the same concerns and questions about school and nursing. There have been so many opportunities for growth and learning with this nursing floor, I wish I knew half of what these students know now about nursing when I was a freshman."
