New to the Internet? New to the Web? Here's some help to get started.

• First, this help page and all web pages are displayed in what is called a "window."
• Sometimes only a part of a Web page will fit within its window or frame. If this happens, there will be "scroll bars" to the right or underneath the window or frame. Click little arrows (really little triangles pointing up or down, left or right) to move the scroll bar and so view all of the page. (If you look to the right side of this HELP window, you should see an example of a scroll bar. Just click on the down arrow — bottom right of this window — to move down. Alternatively, the up and down arrow keys from the keyboard will move you through the page.)
• Sometimes you will have more than one window open at once—right now this help window is on top of the main Logic Café window. It should look a little like this, the gray help window on top of the brown Logic Café window:
      
• There are "links" scattered throughout these pages. A link is simply an area of the page which will do something when you take the mouse pointer and "click" it. You can usually tell something is a link because it is in color, usually blue. For instance, this is a link. Click the word "this" of the last sentence to see what it does. To click, take your mouse pointer (the pointer looks something like this , this, or this ) and move it over the colored word; then press the left mouse button, or the single mouse button if you have only one.
• If you clicked on the word "this" just above, you noticed a javaScript "dialog" box. Sometimes a dialog box merely gives you information. But at other times you will be asked to input information. Try this javaScript prompt dialog box. We will often just call these "pop-up" boxes.
• Sometimes links change color (to purple in most cases) after you have "visited" them.
• After moving from one web page to the next, you may find you need to revisit an earlier page. Your web browser will have a back-button. It will look something like this: . You may click the left pointing (back) arrow to return to the last page visited. Click the little down arrow to view a list of previous pages from which you may select.
• The Logic Cafe window is made up of "frames". In the left frame you found the table of contents--that is where you may have clicked to display this help. In the right, were some images and then an introduction to the Cafe. Later you will see most of the content of this web site in that right frame.

• Another way to see more within a frame is to enlarge it. You may enlarge frames by enlarging the whole browser window or by enlarging the frame itself. For instance, you can "drag" the boundary between frames to enlarge one frame and make the other smaller. To drag, hold the (left) mouse button down on the border and move the mouse pointer in the desired direction.

• To return to the Logic Cafe main page, you may simply click on its window. This help window will remain "open" in the background. Or you can close this help window. Closing a window is a little different in different computer systems. But most have a little symbol, an "icon" on the top of the window, for closing. In Windows, just click on the in the top right corner of the window you'd like to close.
• Each window showing a Web page is run by your Web "browser". This browser is probably Internet Explorer or Netscape Navigator (the most popular and best choices for the Logic Cafe). You should have a fairly resent version of either of these browsers. Check your browser by clicking here. Look to the introduction for more information and for details on how to acquire a newer browser.
• Along the top of your main web page windows, you will also find a number of menu choices and/or buttons. (Just what you'll see depends on your browser version and how it is set up.) Here you can control your experience moving around Web pages. For instance, you can click the "Back" button to move to the page visited just before the current one. And you can print a page to, for example, save a "hard" copy of your work.
• At the bottom or bottom left of most browser windows, you will find a "status" line. Sometimes useful information is displayed here. To check this out, just run your mouse pointer over this link (without clicking!) and look for the status line below (though in a few browsers, like Opera, it's up above).
• As part of your logic homework, you will often be asked to fill in a form that appears on screen. To move about such a form, you may press TAB to move from one "field" element to another or select the appropriate "field" by clicking in it. Just to get the hang of it, fill in the following little form in the table below.
