T3.1: 3 of 3

Here's the printable version of this tutorial.

Now it's time to do some truth tables on your own. Select problem one below (click the button!) and fill in the resulting truth table. Important: Your answer (a 't' or 'f') in each field (the little box you type in) will be checked as you remove the flashing cursor from that field. So, after you have typed your 't' or 'f', make sure you click outside the answer's field or just press TAB. If your answer is correct, the lower case letter turns to upper!

It's important to enter your truth values in the approriate order:

  1. Start with the atomic components and rewrite their truth values (given on the left) under the molecular sentence.
  2. Then apply the truth table definitions to negations of atomic sentences or within parentheses.
  3. Continue assigning truth values in the order as the sentence was constructed.
  4. It's best to have the truth table definitions of the connectives memorized. In case you don't yet have them down pat, here they are again:
    P Q P&Q PvQ P>Q P=Q ~P
    T T T T T T F
    T F F T F F F
    F T F T T F T
    F F F F T T T
