BCBA Certification
As you may be aware, Oakland University is working on a new graduate program to offer BCBA (Board Certified Behavior Analyst) certification to candidates who successfully complete the program. The anticipated starting point is May 2012.  This program will consist of a series of five courses. Each course will be offered for 3 credits. In addition, each course will have a 2-credit practicum. The total credits required would be 25.   For more information on what it means to be a certified BCBA, check out the website of the Behavior Analyst Certification Board at http://www.bacb.com.

Program Information
We plan to offer the first set of courses - Foundations in Applied Behavior Analysis (4 credits) and Clinical Practicum in Applied Behavior Analysis (2 credits) - over this Summer 3 term (May 7 - August 13) as follows:
  • Classroom/lecture sessions will be held on Tuesday evenings, from 5:30 to 8:50, at the Children's Hospital of Michigan's Autism Center in Novi, starting on Tuesday, May 8th and running through Tuesday, August 7th.
  • Case review conferences will be held on Thursday evenings, from 5:30 to 8:50, at the Children's Hospital of Michigan's Autism Center in Novi, starting on Thursday, May 10th and running through Thursday, August 9th.
  • Clinical practicum hours will be arranged individually between the instructor(s) and each student according to when you are available during daytime hours, as long as you can complete the required number of hours sometime in the Summer 3 term  (Evening hours for the clinical practicum will not be available until possibly the fall term.)
How to Apply
Because of the high number of interested candidates, admission will be especially selective.  The first group admitted will be limited to 10 people.  Candidates who have already completed a master's degree in some discipline and have some experience in working with autism are preferred for this first cohort.  If you are interested in applying to the program, please submit the following to Dr. Carol Swift (swift@oakland.edu) with CC: to Dr. Janet Graetz (graetz@oakland.edu), Karla Brown (brown234@oakland.edu) and Susan Martino (martino@oakland.edu) by Monday, April 16 at 5:00 p.m.
  • A copy of your current resume or CV (including your contact information)
  • A letter of intent, indicating why you are interested in the program and why you would make a good candidate
Once these items have been received, interviews will be scheduled with top candidates.  Those not admitted to the summer cohort may still be considered for future cohorts.
