About the Program
This course is designed for experienced professionals as well as those preparing for the working world. It provides broad coverage of project management principles and best practices to help participants become leading edge project managers. The Project Management Principles and Best Practices Certificate Program is a registered education provider with the Project Management Institute.
The course has one broad objective: to advance participant’s knowledge of Project Management principles and best practices. Course content will focus on:
- 8 of PMI’s 9 Knowledge Management areas (Project Integration, Scope, Human Resource, Time, Cost, Quality, Risk, and Communications Management),
- PMI’s 5 Process Groups (Initiating, Planning, Executing, Monitoring and Control, and Closing),
- The establishment of a comprehensive baseline project plan,
- Use of best practices (practical and theoretical),
- An examination and use of a wide variety of specific project tools.

The course consists of 35 contact hours
Program Format
In-person, instructor-led classes in Elliot Hall on the Oakland University campus in Rochester, Michigan. An example course calendar is below. Lunches will not be provided; a one-hour break will be given on days longer than 4 hours to allow students to obtain their own meals.

Requirements
There are no prerequisites for the course. Who should attend?
- Anyone responsible for completing projects/assignments on time, under budget while meeting customer requirements.
- Those interested in learning the core knowledge tested on the Project Management Institute's certification exams (PMP® and CAPM®).
- People interested in advancing their knowledge of Project Management.
Note: This course provides a foundation in the core knowledge tested on the PMP® and CAPM® certification exams, but those exams are not part of this course. Specific educational and experience requirements must be met before one is eligible for certification through the Project Management Institute; see their website for more details.
Course Details
- Course cost is $1,250.00 per student (subject to change).
- Each student will be provided with course material on the first night of class. Course materials include: A Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK Guide), Fifth Edition, and a binder of the instructors powerpoint slides.
- A full 100% tuition refund will be allowed if the student drops before the course start date. No refunds will be given after this date.
- Please note, lunch will not be provided. A one (1) hour break will be allotted for participants to acquire their own meal.
