About the Program
Sponsored by Oakland University and endorsed by the College Board, participation in the AP* Institutes will strengthen your school's academic success. OU will hold two summer sessions for instructors at the main campus in Rochester, Michigan. These four-day conferences offer excellent training for both experienced teachers and those that are new to AP*. The program will offer experienced teachers the opportunity to learn about new and emerging trends in their content areas. For teachers that are new to AP*, the program is a chance to become better informed about the fundamentals of the AP* program. Oakland University's institute is ideally suited for department chairpersons, gifted and talented teachers and curriculum coordinators.

Expert Instructors
Institute instructors for each subject area have been carefully selected for their experience with AP*. All have taught AP* courses in their respective schools for many years. Most have been part of leading AP* workshops around the country and have read and graded AP* exams.

  • Teachers who want to learn how to instruct AP* courses in selected content areas
  • Experienced AP* teachers
  • Teachers of talented and gifted students
  • Teachers, administrators and AP* coordinators who wish to learn how to establish AP* programs in their local high schools or school districts
  • Teachers and administrators who wish to strengthen core curriculum through AP* prep
  • Teachers who want a full review of past  AP* examinations and resources
  • Teachers who want extended opportunities to network with other AP* instructors while gaining needed professional development credit
State Board of Continuing Education Unit Request (SB-CEU)
Teachers that would like to earn 3 SB-CEUs from the State of Michigan are required to indicate their request when registering for their AP course.

To be eligible for SB-CEU credit, participants must attend 100% of the workshop contact hours, sign in and out each day and pay the $10 processing cost when registering on PACE.

Upon arriving the first day, all participants that signed up for SB-CEUs will receive the application and sign-in sheets. At the completion of the workshop, participants who have met the criteria above and would like SB-CEUs must submit the application and sign in sheet to their instructor.

After completion of the course, you will be emailed detailed instructions and a link to the secure central registry to complete the required MDE evaluation of this course. You must complete the evaluation within 30 days of receiving the email. Once the evaluation has been completed MDE will award your SB-CEUs.

These courses are pending state board approval.

You may register online for this course up to start date of the course.  It is recommended that you register early to ensure you will have a seat in the course. Oakland University reserves the right to cancel courses due to low enrollment.  Late registrations will not be accepted. 

To be eligible for a 100% refund for courses that meet either in person, online or distance learning:

  • Participants may self-drop online any time prior to the course start date.
  • No refunds for tuition, books, or materials will occur on or after the course start date

Textbooks
Oakland University has invited numerous publishers to attend the summer institutes and display the latest textbooks for AP* courses. Participants will be given the opportunity to browse many new textbooks.

Requirements
  • Participants are required to attend the entire workshop.
  • Participants who miss more than 10 percent of the summer institute will not be eligible for a certificate of attendance.
  • Course materials and details about the institute will be handed out at the first session, attendance is highly recommended.

Preparatory Course for Actuarial Exam P/1

This is a preparatory class designed to ready Actuarial Science students for the Society of Actuaries (SOA) and Casualty Actuarial Society (CAS) Exam P/1 in Probability.  The class time will be mostly devoted to problem solving, discussing exam strategies and taking sample exams to assess individual student's state of preparation for the exam.
