Course Overview

The American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) Credentialed Clinical Instructor Program prepares physical therapy students for clinical education experiences by:
  • developing learning experiences
  • supporting ongoing learning through questioning and effective feedback
  • discussing performance evaluation skills
  • identifying and managing students with exceptional situations

The program closes with a brief look at legal implications for clinical educators, including issues presented by American with Disabilities Act (ADA) legislation.

The course and assessment center will be useful for both new and experienced clinicians involved with clinical education.

During the program, an assessment center provides the course participant with the opportunity to apply information from the program in simulated situations.  Upon successful completion, PTs and PTAs receive an APTA Credentialing Certificate of Completion of 1.5 continuing education units (CEUs).

Copies of the complete participant dossier must be sent to APTA once the individual successfully completes the program. The information will then be entered into a national database of credentialed CIs. The six stations of the assessment center have been integrated into the program schedule. It is essential for each participant to attend all sessions of the two-day course and assessment center in its entirety.
