A variety of activities and events are planned for new and returning students during Oakland University’s “Welcome Week” celebration, which kicks off Tuesday, Sept. 4.

A variety of activities and events are planned for new and returning students during Oakland University’s “Welcome Week” celebration, which kicks off Tuesday, Sept. 4.

“There are lots of opportunities to get connected to Oakland University during Welcome Week,” said Jean Ann Miller, director of the Office for Student Involvement.

According to Miller, this year’s “Welcome Week” activities include:

Tuesday, Sept. 4

• 
10 a.m. to 1 p.m. – New Student Convocation and Academic Open Houses in the O’Rena on OU’s Main Campus.

• 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. – Kickoff “Welcome Week” on OU’s Main Campus with lunch, Playfair, motivational speaker Justin Jones Fosu and an outdoor music festival in the P29 Parking Structure and Elliott Tower.

• 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. – Disability Support Services (DSS) Open House in Room 103A of North Foundation Hall.

• 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. – Meijer Mania: Hop on a bus to Meijer and stock up on supplies and goodies for the year with fellow students and enjoy discounted prices, giveaways and meet OUs Grizz Gang. Meet at Hamlin Circle for free bus transportation to the Meijer on Rochester Road. (Presented by OU Athletics)

Wednesday, Sept. 5

• 
6 p.m. to 9 p.m. – Welcome BBQ at Elliott Tower, or in the Banquet Rooms at the Oakland Center in the event of rain. (Presented by the Center for Multicultural Initiatives)

• 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. – Open Mic Event hosted by Ebony Stewart, spoken word artist, at the Vandenberg Dining Center in Vandenberg Hall. (Presented by the Residence Halls Association)

• 9 p.m. to 11 p.m. – Yard Show in the Banquet Rooms at the Oakland Center. (Presented by the National Pan-Hellenic Council)

Thursday, Sept. 6

• 
11 a.m. to 1 p.m. – Fall Grizz Fest - Student organization, business and volunteer fair in front of Kresge Library. (Rain date is Monday, Sept. 10)

• 9:30 p.m. to 11 p.m. – “The Walk” to Meadow Brook Hall. “The Walk” starts at Hamlin Circle. (Presented by Fraternity and Sorority Life, and the Office for Student Involvement)

Friday, Sept. 7

• 
9 a.m. to 11 a.m. – Meet, Greet & Treats in the ‘Fishbowl” entrance of South Foundation Hall. (Presented by the Office for Student Involvement)

• 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. – “Free to Pee” event and OU Counseling Center Open House at the Graham Health Center. (Presented by Graham Health Center)

• 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. – International Welcome Reception in the Banquet Rooms at the Oakland Center.

• 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. – 24th Annual Sigma Pi Pig Roast and Student Program Board Carnival on the North Side Lawn outside the Oakland Center. (Rain date is Monday, Sept. 10)

• 7:30 p.m. – OU Women’s Volleyball vs. Colorado State in the O’Rena Recreation and Athletics Center.

• 9 p.m. to 11 p.m. – Outdoor movie screening of “Black Panther” on the north side of the Oakland Center. (Presented by Student Video Productions)

Saturday, Sept. 8

• 
Noon - OU Men’s Soccer vs. UIC at the OU Soccer Field.

• 2:30 p.m. – OU Women’s Volleyball vs. LSU in the O’Rena Recreation and Athletics Center.

• 7 p.m. to 12 a.m. – Welcome Event featuring comedian T. Murph and a “Glow-in-the-Dark” indoor roller rink in the Banquet Rooms at the Oakland Center. (Presented by the Office for Student Involvement and the Residence Halls Association)

Monday, Sept. 10

• 
10 a.m. to 3 p.m. – Oakland Center and Student Activity Fund Assessment Committee Open Houses at the Oakland Center.

• Noon to 2 p.m. – North Foundation Hall and Student Services Open House between North and South Foundation Halls. (Rain site is North Foundation Hall)

• 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. – “Meet and Greet” in Room 103 of North Foundation Hall. (Presented by The Tutoring Center)

Tuesday, Sept. 11

• 
11 a.m. to 3 p.m. – 9/11 Remembrance and Road March for Hunger at Elliott Tower. (Presented by Student Veterans of OU)
