More than 300 Oakland University students, faculty, staff, alumni and friends are expected to walk in the 43rd Annual Macomb County Santa Parade on Saturday, Nov. 17. This is Oakland's seventh year as an event sponsor and OU will again have one of the largest parade groups proudly marching down Main Street to usher in the beginning of the holiday season.

Oakland University, through its Office of Institutional Research and Assessment (OIRA), will participate in the National Assessment of Service and Community Engagement (NASCE) between October 8-19. NASCE is a web-based survey that measures an institution’s overall level of community engagement by evaluating the rate, frequency, and depth of student community service activities.

The loss of life is tragic and the loss of a young life is especially tragic. The Oakland University community was devastated on Saturday to learn of the death of Stephen James Dornan, a junior from New Baltimore, Mich., who lived on the OU campus. He was 20 years old. The University extends condolences to Stephen's family, friends and acquaintances during this most difficult time.

Oakland University student Marybeth Gormley has been awarded her second $2,000 Law Enforcement Education Program (LEEP) Dream Scholarship. She is among eight top students from around the country who will receive the scholarship to encourage their pursuit of law enforcement/public safety careers by the professional public safety officers of LEEP.

Michael Wadsworth has been named interim Dean of Students for Oakland University’s Division of Student Affairs & Diversity. He was elevated to the role upon the retirement of longtime Assistant Vice President and Dean of Students Nancy Marshall (formerly Schmitz). Marshall’s career at Oakland spanned 35 years.
