Major in Operations Management

Major in Operations Management

Operations Management is concerned with the management of the production processes and distribution of products and services. The major in operations management provides a strong managerial and technical education to students interested in the field (including manufacturing planning and control, supply-chain management, service management, project management, process management, and quality management). The major prepares students with the fundamental knowledge they need to work effectively in operations in manufacturing and service sectors, and provides them with advanced knowledge about best practices, current technologies, tools and their application, and leadership skills necessary to operate in a globally diverse and competitive marketplace. My POM major was much more than production and distribution to me.  I really think I took on a new mindset from my POM classes with a greater focus on the many processes that every one of us are involved in each day at work and at home.  These processes, I found, we often take for granted.  By becoming more aware of these processes we can improve our results enormously.  I believe efficiency and continuous improvement are key take-aways from this major, and I really think students can benefit immensely personally, and in their career, from this unique major that OU offers.
