The Patient Care Technician program is offered at Oakland University Riverview Institute. This course provides skills necessary for patient care delivery and can prepare you to work in an expanded role with registered nurses. Excellent preparation for entry into any nursing program with salary ranges for PCT’s around $14-$16 per hour.
Students must complete 312 hours to successfully complete this program. Graduates will receive an Oakland University School of Nursing Certificate of Completion.
This course will introduce the theoretical applications and techniques related to the role of the Patient Care Technician. Involving multi-skilled direct and in-direct patient care responsibilities including but limited to diagnostic procedures such as 12-lead electrocardiography, phlebotomy and specimen collections. Emphasis will be placed on safety, documentation, standard precautions, legal and ethical considerations and OSHA standards. There will be a review of Nurse Assistant competencies. Application of course content will be reinforced in the supervised clinical setting.
Successful complete of training qualifies graduate to test for National Certification as:
- Patient Care Technician
- Phlebotomist
- Certified Nursing Assistant
- EKG technician
The PCT program costs $1,800 (including certification costs and textbook, but not including uniform or supplies)
Admission Requirements:
- ICHAT State Criminal Background Clearance (within 6 months)
- Urine Drug Test (within 30 days)
- TB Skin Test (within 1 year)
- Hepatitis B Vaccine Refusal Form
- Current CPR BLS certification (within 2 years). Riverview Institute of Oakland University provides this training for a cost of approximately $60.00
- Health Assessment form. The Health Assessment form must be completed by a physician, with physical exam within one year, and titers report (Blood draw to verify immunizations) attached
