Oakland University’s School of Nursing continues to applaud the advancement of the nursing profession with its 30th Annual Nightingale Awards for Nursing Excellence® celebration.

This year's prestigious event will be held on May 10, 2018 at The San Marino Club in Troy.

This special award ceremony is more than just a night of professional awards; it is an opportunity to come together to honor those nurses who pursue excellence without compromise.

The People’s Choice Award category of the Nightingale Awards for Nursing Excellence® recognizes a nurse who demonstrates the careful balance of executing both the science and art of nursing.

Nominations for the People’s Choice Award are accepted in nine categories and a total of 20 awards will be presented at the gala for notable nurses who have made a difference in the lives of patients, their friends or family. Nurses who went above and beyond. Nurses who made a hospital stay more pleasant. Nurses who ensured that all treatment options were shared. Or nurses like Susan Veltigian, last year’s People’s Choice Award winner, who was the ‘angel’ for her patient and his family while undergoing several life-threatening, surgeries. Veltigian spent weeks teaching the family how to care for their loved one’s wounds in a way that would allow them to carry out competent care once he returned home.

Anyone can nominate a nurse, quickly and easily, by submitting a one page form (available at www.oakland.edu/nursing/nightingale), now through February 3, 2018. The winner of this award will receive a solid bronze statue of nursing pioneer Florence Nightingale, a commemorative pin and an award in the amount of  $1,000.

All nominated nurses will receive a certificate of honor and an invitation to participate at the event. Submit nominations via mail to the Oakland University School of Nursing, Nightingale Nominations, 3057 Human Health Building, Rochester, MI, 48309 or via email at nightingale@oakland.edu.
