OAKLAND UNIVERSITY – SCHOOL OF NURSING

PEDS CLINICAL EDUCATORS NEEDED FOR FALL 2012

The School of Nursing at Oakland University is accepting applications for part-time undergraduate nursing faculty with expertise in pediatrics to teach clinical. Applicants must possess a bachelor’s degree in nursing and a minimum of three years of nursing (RN) experience.

Clinical educators assist nursing students in applying the theory, principles and client care skills that they learn in class to a clinical setting. Each clinical setting will focus on adults, children, families or mental health. Most clinical assignments are two days a week, usually a Monday and Tuesday or Tuesday and Wednesday, etc. with some rotations on the weekend.  Rotations run 7:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. or 3:00 a.m. - 11:30 p.m..  Salary ranges from $35 - $47 per hour per rotation with compensation based on experience and education. Each rotation is approximately 90 hours.

Current clinical instructors find the experience to be an excellent opportunity to provide knowledge and compassion which will enhance the lives of future nursing students and the patients with whom they will come in contact.

“Practicing RNs are able to incorporate current evidence-based practice into the clinical settings. Our future nursing students are able to be taught current practices and critical thinking skills,” said Peggy Jackson RN, BSN, OB Clinical Instructor.

Kathie Murto, RN, MSN, Medical/Surgical instructor advises that “clinical instructors be energetic and want to help develop our future BSN prepared nurses.”  She added that instructors also have excellent bedside care, a positive personality, be able to critically think and have extensive knowledge on basic nursing skills in an acute care facility.

Oakland’s School of Nursing is CCNE accredited and offers students a broad range of clinical experiences.  The school offers BSN, RN/BSN degree completion and accelerated second-degree programs at the undergraduate level.
