About the Robert Noyce Teacher Scholarship Program
The Robert Noyce Teacher Scholarship Program encourages talented science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) majors and professionals to become K-12 mathematics and science teachers. Oakland University's grant funded program was awarded for its innovation as part of a new component of the Noyce program, supporting STEM professionals who commit as NSF Teaching Fellows in this master's degree program leading to secondary teacher certification by providing academic courses, professional development, and scholarship.
The School of Education and Human Services has partnered with the Avondale, Hazel Park and Oak Park School Districts in placing Noyce Scholars who will teach in high-needs schools upon certification.
Noyce Scholars will receive funds to attend a regional professional development meeting, and upon certification, an opportunity to apply for mini-grants to provide resources to upgrade STEM programs in their new schools. The Scholars will be mentored by exemplary teachers from partnering schools both during their preparatory year at Oakland University and during their early years as a teacher. |
