Scholarship profile: Lisa Oke ready for study abroad experience Oakland University student Lisa Oke understands the importance of diversity. She is double majoring in East Asian Studies and Studio Art with a specialization in New Media, and she will spend her senior year at Nanzan University in Nagoya, Japan. There, she hopes to take a wide range of courses from language to traditional arts. A $1000 study abroad scholarship from the OU Alumni Association will help pay her way.  Full Story...

Alumni profile: Nicole Young publishes first book in series
Nicole Young (CAS ’89) has been on a journey throughout her life. Her journey took her from the Upper Peninsula to Oakland University. After completing her degree in communication, she spent some time in advertising before returning to northern Michigan to run a bed and breakfast and perform with two country bands. Young has always loved to write so she began to construct a novel using her experiences to guide her main character through a spiritual journey. The book, “Love Me If You Must,” is the first in the three-book “Patricia Amble Mystery Series.”  Full Story...

Third annual OU Night at Comerica Park
The 2006 OU Night at Comerica Park sold out, with over 1,000 OU fans in attendance! Don’t be left out this year! Mark you calendars for the third annual OU Night at Comerica Park on Wednesday, August 22 when the 2006 ALCS Champion Detroit Tigers take on the Cleveland Indians!  Full Story...

The OUAA depends on its loyal, dues-paying members to offer quality alumni programs and significant student scholarships. It takes a higher level of dedication and commitment to be an OUAA member, and we want to show our appreciation to those of you who support the membership program. Campus Happenings
OU, Beaumont Hospitals announce plans for medical school
Officials from Oakland University and Beaumont Hospitals announced April 5 that they have entered into a partnership that will create a new medical school on Oakland’s campus. The medical school will be privately funded. Beaumont and Oakland jointly filed a letter of intent with the Liaison Committee for Medical Education (LCME), the nationally recognized accrediting authority for medical education programs leading to an M.D. degree. Full Story...

OU Annual Fund closes in on goal
Thank you to the thousands of OU alumni and friends who have raised $947,000 for the OU Annual Fund so far this fiscal year! We appreciate those of you who have generously pledged during our annual OU Telefund Campaign, responded to appeals received through the mail, or gone online to make your gift through our secure Web site. Our goal is to raise $1 million in support for OU students by the end of the university’s fiscal year, which is June 30, 2007. Full Story...

Local merchants provide discounts and special offers to OUAA members, students, faculty and staff. OU summer AP institute to advance teaching talent
The Institute for the Teaching of Advanced Placement will be held at Oakland University from July 23-26 and July 30-Aug. 2. Co-sponsored by Oakland University and The College Board, each week-long conference offers excellent training for high school teachers, both with experience and new to advanced placement. OU’s program is one of only three AP institutes statewide and helps answer federal mandates to raise the bar of teaching nationwide.  Full Story...
