Grizzly Gathering promises top opponents, b-ball excitement at The Palace

Calling all Grizzlies basketball fans! It’s time once again to gather with your fellow alumni for two exciting Oakland University basketball events at The Palace of Auburn Hills. Coming this December, the OU men’s basketball team will take on both the University of Michigan and Michigan State University. The televised games are set for Saturday, Dec. 20 (OU Grizzlies vs. the University of Michigan) and Saturday, Dec. 27 (OU Grizzlies vs. Michigan State University.) Full Story >>>


Van Gogh to Dali…
Unique viewing of DIA exhibit available to OUAA members

OUAA members will receive a unique and personalized look at the upcoming Detroit Institute of Arts exhibit, Monet to Dali: Modern Masters from the Cleveland Museum of Art, at a special event planned for Oct. 24. The evening will include a reception for OU alumni and friends beginning at 6 p.m., followed by a presentation by Tamara Machmut-Jhashi, associate professor of Art and Art History at Oakland University. OUAA names Alumni Award recipients
The OUAA hosts an Alumni Awards Banquet annually, bringing together hundreds of OU graduates to honor achievements in business, community service, volunteerism and more. The 14th annual banquet takes place on Saturday, Nov. 8, at 6 p.m. in the Oakland Center Banquet Rooms. The celebration also will include special recognition of previous alumni award recipients.

Oakland announces appointment of medical school dean
Oakland University’s Board of Trustees has appointed Robert Folberg, M.D., as the founding dean of the allopathic medical school Oakland will open with Beaumont Hospitals in 2010. Oakland University William Beaumont School of Medicine (OUWBSM) will open with a charter class of 50 students. Full Story >>>
Brooksie Way half marathon to start, finish at OU
The grounds of Oakland University will be the start and historic Meadow Brook Hall will be the finish line for the inaugural Brooksie Half Way Marathon on Oct. 5. The Brooksie Way is named in memory of Brooks Stuart Patterson, the son of Oakland County Executive L. Brooks Patterson, who died as a result of a snowmobiling accident in February 2008. The race includes a 5K race/walk and is part of the official Crim Training Program in Oakland and Genesee counties. Full Story >>>

The Second Annual Art and Culinary Soiree, a gourmet and art event to benefit the Oakland University Art Gallery (OUAG), will take place on Thursday, Oct. 23 at 8 p.m. Featuring international foods, fine wines, musical entertainment and original artwork by OU faculty and students, the benefit will be held at Vince & Joe’s Shelby Township location, 55178 Van Dyke Avenue.
