Pioneering, philanthropic business leader to share story of success

Sterling Heights, Mich. – Mallory Brown, a 24-year-old social entrepreneur with a goal to clothe the world, will bring the story of her for-profit company with a philanthropic mission to the Macomb-OU INCubator's Fireside Chat Series on Tuesday, Oct. 29.

With the tagline 'You buy. We give. Together, we clothe the world,' Brown's apparel company, World Clothes Line (WCL), matches every item purchased with a new item for someone in need. WCL operates as an online retail store, selling casual clothes that graphically reflect different regions of the world. The WCL team travels to impoverished countries to personally deliver new clothes to those who need them most.

Since its launch in 2010, World Clothes Line has clothed the homeless in Detroit, at a refugee camp in Peru and on an impoverished island in Indonesia, as well as schoolchildren in Israel and at four orphanages in Africa.

Brown has has been recognized by Crain's Detroit Business' "20 in their 20s," Albion College's "Top 10 in 10 Alumni," WJR's "Breaking the Cycle" and Huffington Post's "Greatest Person of the Day" for pioneering her business model.

The Fireside Chat Series is designed to encourage discussion and help entrepreneurs gain inside knowledge from those who have 'been there' and 'done that.' Admission to Brown's presentation, which begins at 4 p.m. on Oct. 29, is free and open to the public. Discussion and questions are encouraged as part of the event.

The incubator is located in the Velocity building at 6633 Eighteen Mile Road in Sterling Heights. Those interested in attending are asked to register in advance by contacting Joan Carleton at (586) 884-9324 or e-mailing to macINC@oakland.edu.
