Medical Main Street
The Oakland Press reported on Oakland County's Medical Main Street, a unique alliance of world-class hospitals, universities and private sector companies focused on promoting investment in the health care and life science industries. Oakland University is among a select group of board members that provide advice and support to this initiative. 
  

Community Engagement

 

Energy Certificate
The Oakland Press reported on an integrative professional certificate program in energy management being offered through a partnership between Oakland University's School of Business Administration and School of Engineering and Computer Science. The six-week program will prepare engineering and business to help their organizations become sustainable enterprises.

Financial Planning Certificate
The Oakland Press reported on the certificate program in personal financial planning being offered through Oakland University's School of Business Administration. This board-certified program is designed to provide students with techniques and knowledge that will assist clients manage a wide array of financial assets.

OUPD Dispatch Station
The Oakland Press reported on the Oakland University Police Department's newly upgraded dispatch communication system. The station is equipped with technology that allows it to handle text message alerts of crimes and emergencies.

Oakland County Employers
Oakland University was featured in Crain's Detroit Business' list of the 20 largest employers in Oakland County.

Hockey Club
The Oakland Press reported on the development of the Oakland University hockey team into a nationally recognized squad boasting some of the region's top players

Commissioner's Cup
The Oakland Press reported that Oakland University's athletics programs hold a significant lead in this year's Summit League Commissioner's Cup standings. Oakland also holds the top spot for both the Dr. William Steinbrecher Men's All Sports Award and the Dr. Helen Smiley Women's All Sports Award.

OU basketball players Brittany Carnago, Bethany Watterworth, Sharise Calhoun, Anna Patritto Elizabeth Hafeli and Elizabeth Hamlet were featured in the Oakland Press for their helping the team to a strong showing early this season. Watterworth captured Summit League Player of the Week honors the first week in December.

OU senior captain Keith Benson was featured in the Oakland Press along with teammates Reggie Hamilton and Drew Valentine for their strong play on the court this season. Senior guard Larry Wright was the subject of an Oakland Press cover story discussing his new role as the team's starting point guard.

Kevin Kranker and Jacob DeSano
OU hockey players Kevin Kranker and Jacob DeSano were featured in the Oakland Press after being selected to represent the United States at the 25th World University Games in Turkey.

Student Engagement

Holiday Greeting
The Oakland Press reported on the university's efforts to contain costs by sending the official president's holiday greeting card via email instead of the United States Postal Service. The electronic greeting includes videos of campus activities, along with a traditional holiday message from OU President Dr. Gary Russi.

Future Students

Skylar Janisse, Logan Sparkman, Doug Beith, Lucas Scocchia, Christopher Van Dyke, Robert Enslen and Spencer Marenette
The Oakland Press reported that these seven players have signed National Letters of Intent to play for the Oakland University baseball team starting in the 2012 season.
