Alumni profile: Franklin Dohanyos's future is piping hot It isn’t difficult to see how Franklin Dohanyos’s Oakland University education got him where he is today. Currently the owner of a public relations firm headquartered in Royal Oak, Dohanyos, CAS ’91, majored in communications and minored in business. But a successful career is only part of the story. Dohanyos is a true Renaissance man. He is an author, an actor, a forensics buff, a lecturer, a family man, and — last but not least — an award-winning bagpiper. Full Story...
Scholarship winner profile: Matt Kelly honored for embracing diversity Matt Kelly is passionate about bridging the differences between students and breaking down the stereotypes that exist on a college campus. Kelly was among the first group of multicultural educators on campus, is an active member of the Gay Straight Alliance and is a Students, Administrators & Faculty for Equality training facilitator. He also facilitates a COM 101 course through which he helps educate freshmen on the importance of diversity. Full Story... |

Membership Appreciation Breakfast in Macomb Alumni living and/or working in Macomb County are invited to a special Membership Appreciation Breakfast to recognize and thank members of the Oakland University Alumni Association on Thursday, February 8 at Cherry Creek Golf Course. GrizzLink launched with fanfare in December! December was a busy, inaugural month for GrizzLink, despite everyone’s busy schedule. Nearly 300 OU alumni made time to join the new online community which features social and professional networking. Your fall OU Magazine included an ID number that you will need to login to GrizzLink. The ID is on the address label of your magazine, directly above your name, after the # sign and before the ///’s. OUAA Scholarship Opportunities The OUAA is now offering scholarships that directly benefit alumni and thier family members. If you are a graduate of Oakland University who is currently pursuing a second degree at OU, you are eligible to apply for a Returning Alumni Scholarship. Maybe you are a parent or grandparent of a current or incoming Oakland University freshman. If so, they may qualify to apply for a Legacy Scholarship. Both scholarships offered are $3,000 non-renewable awards that will be distributed for the fall 2007/winter 2008 semesters. Full Story...

Alumni Night at the O’rena Join the Oakland University Alumni Association in celebrating the 50th anniversary of OU on Saturday, February 24, 2007! Our annual Alumni Night at the O’rena will take on a special 50th anniversary flare as alumni, friends, faculty, staff and their families are invited to cheer the basketball teams to victory against conference foe Oral Roberts. This form was mailed to all of our “addressable” OU alumni (68,533) on December 6, 2006. The form included current home and business information that is stored in our university database system.  California Alumni Gather for OU vs. UCLA Basketball More than 60 OU alumni in California gathered together on Saturday, December 16, to watch the Golden Grizzlies take on the UCLA Bruins. Detroit Tigers Winter Caravan to stop at OU Jan. 17 Fresh from their stunning appearance in the 2006 World Series, a contingent of Detroit Tigers players and coaches will visit Oakland University on Wednesday, Jan. 17 at 3 p.m. as part of the team’s annual winter promotional caravan. Detroit Tiger rally towels will be given away to the first 250 people through the doors. The event is free and open to the public. Full Story...

 Presentation and Book Signing with OU Alumnus Paul Haig Oakland University welcomes alumnus Paul Haig, along with coauthor Marla Shelton, for a presentation and discussion on their new book Threads of Gold: Chinese Textiles Ming to Ching. The event, which will also feature a reception and book signing by the authors, will be held on Wednesday, January 31, from 6-7:30 p.m. on the fourth floor of Kresge Library. Full Story...
