Alumni profile: The adventures of Judge Leo Bowman
Judge Leo Bowman never thought he would be such a VIP on the campus of his alma mater. A 1976 political science graduate of Oakland University, the humble Bowman still remembers his surprise when he was offered a seat on the OUAA Board of Directors 13 years ago. After spending nearly two decades as a 50th District Court judge in his hometown of Pontiac, was recently appointed by Governor Jennifer Granholm to the 6th Judicial Circuit Court of Oakland County, making him the first African American male to permanently sit there. Full Story...

Scholarship profile: On stage with clarinetist Katherine Fox
Preparing to begin her fifth year at OU in the fall, Katherine Fox calls herself a “super senior.” She notes, however, that her degree—instrumental music education and performance—requires a four and a half year program, so it’s not as if she’s behind. She’s also tackling a minor in theatre, is a member of the Honors College, and works as a student clerical assistant in the Department of Music, Theatre and Dance. Full Story...

Alumni profile: Greg Grabowski on life after ‘40’
Greg Grabowski, BGS ’91, set four goals he wanted to achieve before turning 40: become a vice president at a company, make a certain amount of money, be in the Chronicle of Philanthropy, and make Crain’s Detroit Business “40 Under 40 list.” With the 2005 Crain’s list, Grabowski reached every goal by the age of 38. Full Story...

The OUAA continues in savoir faire style with a special appreciation breakfast for alumni residing and/or working in Wayne County on Wednesday, August 8, at Detroit’s own Roostertail. Important OU academic transcript information
Oakland University provides an unofficial academic web transcript to OU alumni who have graduated after 1987 through the OU SAIL Web site. Security measures at the university are being increased as Oakland is proactive in maintaining a high level of security with all of its electronic data. Because of these new security measures, it is very important that you login to the SAIL system before the end of August and create a Security Question and Answer that you will remember. Full Story...

OUAA announces recipients of 2007 Alumni Awards
The Oakland University Alumni Association is pleased to announce the recipients of the 13th Annual Alumni Awards. The alumni awards banquet on Saturday, October 20, 2007, in the Oakland Center Banquet Rooms will celebrate and honor these phenomenal alumni and community leaders. As part of the university’s 50th anniversary celebration this year, the 13th Annual Alumni Awards Banquet will also feature a special tribute to the Charter Class, as well as past alumni award recipients.   Full Story...

Lit to Film Book Club announces new lineup
Free book – open to all! The OUAA Lit to Film Book Club will begin its new year in September with a special offer – a free book and a free meeting open to anyone interested in attending. "Children Between Worlds" book exhibit comes to OU
“Children Between Worlds,” a book exhibition based on awakening cultural interests in children, will be on display in the Educational Resources Laboratory in Pawley Hall from mid-July through Labor Day. Linda Pavonetti, associate professor, encountered other exhibits sponsored by the International Youth Library and expressed an interest in creating one that would benefit American children. The result is a traveling exhibit that encourages children to better understand multicultural experiences.  Full Story...

Meadow Brook Hall hosts Concours d’Elegance Aug. 5
The 29th Annual Concours d’Elegance brings together the tradition of antique and classic automobiles on display at the historic Meadow Brook Hall and the new leadership which will put a different twist on the Concours’ distinctive events. While the Concours d’Elegance will be held on Sunday, Aug. 5, events including motor tour, fashion show and auction will begin on Tuesday, July 31.This year's Concours also includes a tribute to the great Italian masterpiece, Alfa Romeo; and a tribute to the 1957 convertible with examples of the finest automobiles created in this iconic year of auto design. Full Story...

CAS to bring noted speakers to campus in 2007-08
The College of Arts and Sciences will be sponsoring a variety of exciting events this coming academic year that will include several noted speakers: Pulitzer Prize-winning investigative journalist and Washington Post managing editor Bob Woodward; Peter Singer, professor of bioethics at Princeton University; and historian and author Deborah Lipstadt. Full Story...

“Envision” Nursing Conference to discuss technology and entrepreneurship
Envision a nurse making a home site visit and monitoring a patient’s blood pressure, pulse rate and blood glucose without having to leave the office. Envision nurses empowered to make dynamic changes within their profession and elevating their status to new heights. As part of the Meadow Brook Research Conference Series, Oakland University’s School of Nursing (SON) is hosting a conference entitled "Envision: Health Care Technology, Education and Entrepreneurship in the 21st Century" on October 18 and 19 at the Embassy Suites Hotel in Troy, Michigan. OU and OPC partnership continues with fall events
“A partnership in lifelong learning,” a partnership between Oakland University and the Older Persons’ Commission (OPC) in Rochester is gearing up for its second year of programming. Lectures ranging from the latest research findings to popular culture will be presented by Oakland faculty, nationally-recognized scholars in their respective fields. Oakland University is sponsoring Downtown Rochester’s Dancin’ in the Street, Friday, August 10 from 6-10 p.m. and Saturday, August 11, 2007 from noon-10 p.m. The OU Dance team will perform Friday at 6:30 p.m. The event, which features music, dancing and food, is held on W. Fourth Street and Main.
