MEET OUR NEW COUNSELING INTERN

Adam Harris is the Counseling Intern for the Center for Multicultural Initiatives. His primary role includes meeting weekly with and monitoring the scholarship requirements for 40 scholarship students (OUTAS, McCree, and Compact). Adam graduated from the University of Michigan-Dearborn with a Bachelor's of Arts degree in Business Administration and a minor in African & African American Studies. Currently, he is finishing his Master's of Arts in Counseling at the University of Detroit Mercy. With his internship through the Center for Multicultural Initiatives, Adam will be completing his graduate degree. In the future, Adam hopes to work in higher education, as a counselor/advisor for undergraduate students. He also has a passion to be of service to students in any possible way that he can.


CMI CORE SUMMER BRIDGE STUDENTS 2013-2014


The CMI CORE Summer Bridge program provides a comprehensive orientation to college life and academic support. The program is designed to ease the transition from high school to college while building on a strong academic foundation. As part of the CORE program students spend one week during the summer receiving college math and reading instruction. During the freshmen year students meet weekly with CMI staff and Peer Ambassadors for academic and social support.

UPCOMING CMI EVENTS

CMI WELCOME BBQ

Join us at the annual CMI Welcome BBQ from 6pm-9pm between O'Dowd Hall and Bear Lake on Wednesday, September 4, 2013. There will be free food and music! This event is co-sponsored by the Association of Black Students (ABS) and will be followed by a Greek Yard Show. All Oakland University students, staff, and faculty welcome!

HISPANIC CELEBRATION 2013
Join CMI in celebrating Hispanic Celebration Month at Oakland University from September 13-October 15, 2013. This year we are excited to have a number of events including an appearance by Alina Fernandez (Fidel Castro's Daughter), a performance by poet Mayda Del Valle, our annual Salsa Night and community service project at the Hispanic Outreach center in Pontiac! 3rd ANNUAL CMI MEN'S RETREAT
The 3rd Annual CMI Men's Retreat and 3 on 3 Basketball Tournament will take place on September 27-28, 2013. The retreat provides recreation and workshops on topics relevant to acheiving personal and academic success in college and in life after graduation. 1st ANNUAL CMI WOMEN'S RETREAT
The 1st Annual CMI Women's Retreat will take place October 11-12, 2013. This retreat will offer interactive workshops and provide tools to assist them in taking an active leadership role on campus as well as to begin taking steps in preparation for life after college. SCHOLARSHIP AND FINANCIAL AID OPPORTUNITIES

Keeper of the Dream (KOD)applications are now available to students who possess all of the following attributes: current cumulative grade-point average of 3.0, demonstrated campus involvement, record of responsible citizenship, scholarship and leadership in breaking down cultural stereotypes and in promoting interracial understanding, and must be a continuing full time student for fall 2014 and winter 2015 semesters. Applications are due by 5:00 pm Friday, October 11.

NEED ASSISTANCE BUYING BOOKS?
The CMI provides an interest free book loan to students with at least 24 credit hours earned and a minimum 2.5 GPA. The loan provides up to $250 per semester and may be redeemed at the OU bookstore. If you are interested in the Sharp Emergency Book Loan, download our online application.
